Web Page Design Module 2: Creating Images

Adobe® Fireworks® is a versatile program that is included in the Adobe CS6 Suite that can be used to create and edit both bitmap and vector images. The original files which can be edited are saved with the PNG format. In addition, you can export or save a Fireworks file as a JPEG or GIF file type.

To find Adobe Fireworks CS6 on your computer type in Fireworks CS6 in the Start text box.

To create a new Fireworks document select Create New Fireworks Document (PNG).

Enter the width and height for the canvas of your image and select OK. Note the width and height are in pixels. Designers Toolbox provides a list of standard web banners.

The Fireworks space contains several tools which are displayed on the ribbon on the left hand side of the screen.  You will only be introduced to the more familiar tools to create an image on the canvas which you find in Paint and Microsoft Office.

Fireworks files should be saved as both a PNG format which can be edited and as a JPG which can be inserted into a web page.
